Hi all,you good people,

I spent some time outside last night, actually lots of time, and captured the following images, actually four in all. ;), now I'm stuffed :P

I did a 90 minute run on Thoers Helmet, a little disappointed of the result, 20 exposures at 4 mins 30 secs.

The other three i am pretty happy with.

All images were processed in Image Plus, and other than that not much else was applied, these are full size widefields.

All Images were taken with the new 20D, which I want to flog  mounted on the Tak 106 and auto guided

Thoers helmet 20 @ 4mins 30secs, @ 400 ISO

M7 5 @ 2 mins 30 secs @ 400 ISO

M16 Eagle nebula 10 @ 2 mins 30 secs @ 400 ISO

Cats Paw nebula 10 @ 2 mins 30 secs @ 400 ISO

Leon

Those are a nice set of images leon.:)

Not convinced though that you couldn't have produced similar results with the unmodded 5D though, and if you're spending lots of time processing is the 'mod' all it's cracked up to be or just the DSLR flavour du jour!!??:P:P:P

A lot of the modded images just seem to be too busy without the smoothness that a cooled CCD would give - just too damn red and noisy for my liking!
End of rant!

Errrrr... but yours are nice;)

Thanks Doug, yes you do have a point I expect, the 5D, did actually pick up a reasonably amount of HA.

The Modded camera certainly picks up more, but then as you say, weigh up the other factors in relation to smoothness, and processing techniques.

Ah well, mate I don't have it any more, even the 30 D is gone, so unless I mod the 5D I will be back to basics.

Hi Leon,

A fitting farewell to a fine camera, nice images :)

If I was absolutely sure I could use the 5D for daylight without any mucking around, maybe just a snap on filter (and I had the money :)) I would get it modded. Otherwise I would think twice as the 5D is a lot of camera and from your pics great unmodded as well.

I think they all look good Leon, the cats paw is the most captivating for me the colour is the most vibrant in this one.

Cheers

Thank You Ric, and Paul, I have to say I do get a bit nervous thinking about pulling the 5D apart :scared: :scared:

Nice selection there Leon. It's a shame your selling the 20D.

Keeping both the modded 20D and the 5D seemed like the best of both worlds.

Thanks Barb and Dave, although the 20 D did the job I have been spoiled with the 5D's ability to get those really 1-1 wide fields that I really do like, in that area the 20D just didn't cut it.

Never mind now I know what to expect if I ever get the 5D modded.
