Hello all,
Here's a recent image of a very interesting but very faint object, the Vela Supernova Remnant.
The image was done with the 4.3" WO refractor working at f/4.9 with the 0.8x reducer/corrector and 2" CLS filter. Mounted on a G-11 and autoguided for 96-minutes (12 x 8-min. subs.) using Houghys cooled DSLR set to ISO 800. Processed with ImagesPlus and P/shop.
This 33% reduction is worth a look http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/VelaSuperNovaRemnant.html

Very nice result Paul, I have imaged the pencil neb which is the brightest part of this complex and thats very faint!
Well done!
That is one fascinating image Paul, all those filaments of nebula twisting through each other look awesome. The colours look right and the stars look sharp.
I'm the same as Steve, it reminded of the movie "Fantastic Voyage" as well.
Cheers

hi Garyh, there's no doubt about it, this nebula complex is very faint. Hoping to get another go (when weather lets me) and I'll go much deeper this time.

Arrr, thanks. I used Star Atlas PRO to get Digitized Sky Survey images so that I could work out exactly where Vela SNR is. Then I was able to work out how I would need to orient camera and position telescope to frame the Pencil Nebula part as well as get those large arcs. I wanted to get the arcs!
cheers
