Warning, the Cambroon bridge has been condemned so the road is closed:(
If you are coming from the direction of the Coast/Maleny you must turn right into Eastern Mary River road which is about 4Kms from Conondale, Drive for about 10Kms, then follow the directions on the sticky map
This road runs parallel with the main road.:(
If coming from Kenilworth proceed a further 10 Kms past the turnoff at the Caravan Park and turn left into Eastern Mary River Road,( there is a big farm house on the right hand side of the road) and follow the above instructions
It looks like it will be a long time before we get a replacement bridge:(
Please phone if in difficulty, leave a bit early if in doubt.

Gee thats a bummer Ron! Is Eastern Mary River road a sealed road? Or gravel all the way?
It was a good little bridge... and shall be remembered!

That's bad news Ron.
Lets hope they don't just push all that beautiful wood into a pile and burn it.

Bugger, that adds another 20 km to the trip for me. :(
Dave it's sealed but narrow in sections and watch for the cows. You will cross a number of cattle grids.
As long as you are all detouring that far, sounds like a perfect excuse to make a
road trip down to the South Pacific Star Party instead. ;)
No chance of a surprise visit Ron?

That's a real shame Ron - not that the Eastern Mary River road isn't a much more scenic drive but it's a bugger that you have to go so far out of the way to get to Kenilworth now.
I have to say that your bridge there has so much "charm" that it's genuinely upsetting to think they are going to tear it down.
When did you find this out Ron, and how have they notified people locally?
-------------------------
Has anyone considered editing or replacing the map & instructions in the Cambroon "sticky thread" yet?

There is a engineers meeting tomorrow morning, when we should receive more information.
It was only closed this morning ,after a preliminary inspection yesterday found that severe damage had been done by a truck that was over the weight limit of the bridge .
I had a look at the undernieth of the bridge this morning and there are some decent sized splits in the wood.
They may open it for car traffic only, but that is only a guess on my part.
I will keep you informed.
No chance of a trip to Illford at this time Gary.
Ron
Please leave the sticky for the moment, while we wait for the report tomorrow.

Geeez Ron, that sucks on so many levels.
I love that old bridge, it's the highlite of my trip.
This adds 20K's to my trip also, this means going to your place via Maleny from Nambour is actually a better option????? Sheesh, thats rediculous. How are you going to get your groceries?? You'll be better off shopping in Maleny I guess. Hope you like Woolworths. LOL.
Please get back to us about the engineers reports ASAP so I know what I am doing.
Lastly, how big is the road block? Is it just a few yellow detour signs? Sheesh if thats all it is I can move them out of the way temporarily. My Magna wont fall in the Mary. have you kicked the truck driver in the a$$ for breaking it? Was he a local?

Hi Ron, sorry to hear that...it's going to be a real pain for you guys out that way. I saw the figure of around $4M to replace the bridge :scared: .. lets hope they can fix it and keep it in a nice "vintage" appearance. It's certainly a classic.
Hey Dennis, if you take the Magna across, at least if you do take a dive into the Mary your airbags will keep you afloat
I'll have to check the maps now and see if its quicker for me to go via Maleny or just do the driveby and long loop around.

Gee! I'll fix the bridge for "$4 Million dollars" (said like doctor evil).
That sounds like a lot of money for such a small bridge. You would think they could replace it with prefab concrete pieces....

No news at the moment. so it looks like it is closed for the weekend at least
It is a span of over 56mt and seeing as they don't do wooden bridges anymore, the 4million might be in the ball park , with the demolition and other works required,
There are considerable barriers across both ends of the bridge, so not even a motor bike can get across.
We have an idea who possibly could have been the culprit, but that would be only a hunch, and something you would not say out loud

The bridge is still closed:(so I suggest if you are coming from direction of Nambour it may be best to come via Maleny ;)
I have put a couple of signs out:eyepop: One at the entrance to Eastern Mary River Road, four Kms from Conondale( look out for a Farm House on the left hand side of the road, there is also a large amount of cattle feed bales in the farmhouse field) and One at the bend in the road about four Kms down the road.
From the bend there are Seven Cattle Grids.
From the Seventh Cattle Grid you have Two Kms to go to the junction of Chappel Road and Chinaman Creek Road.
Take the right fork and First house on the left hand side.
You are here.
Ron
