M83 from Glebe

M83 from Glebe, no moon, usual LP, but transparency was not great, lots of high cloud.

Scope, TV85, 0.8 reducer, UV/IR filter
Camera, SBIG 2000 XCM, self guided, -15 C
Lights, 12 by 300 sec, Darks, 6 by 300 sec, Flats 3
Mount EQ6

Good one, focus and guiding look just fine. To me it appears slightly red, but man oh man, that is what you are after huh? Maybe ditch the reducer for a little more image scale?

Thanks Mike. Still finding it difficult to focus. Still learning and who doesnt want more megapixels but apart from that I am very happy with it. It has less tangle than a guide scope and the mount is easier to balance.



Thanks Gary. Unfortunately the extension screw snapped so until I can work out a way to get it out the reducer is stuck (maybe a drill?) :scared:. I am thinking of getting a C9.25 and reducer, then i will have all the focal length I can cope with, possibly more :)

The flat fields worked a treat, I should have taken them ages ago.

I like it Paul - image scale is the same as I took (but didn't post) with my ED80 - yours is a much better image though...very nice.

Despite the scale you've managed to bring out detail in the arms - nice work!

Snapped? Wow, be careful with that.
Actually, I don't think the 9.25 will be as much fun, not for a while anyway. The shorter the focal length the easier the task is how I find it. OK, galaxies are difficult, but the rest is easier, guiding, wind, focus, you name it. Try the native refractor focal length first, then think about more.

yeh there shouldn't be much coma/field curvature in the TV85. The reducer will make things like Orion and Eta easier to fit in, but the native focal length will be good for most things, just not on galaxies.

What is the native FL of the TV85?

Hi Mike,

The FL is 600mm or F7. I could never find focus with the SBIG and the reducer but I will try again. Maybe without the reducer the TCF-S may work.

I am happy with the TV85, compared to my ED80 the field is very flat, but then they are different scopes.



Hi Gary.

I wont jump straight in but I have a C11 which is not seeing much use. I figured I still like visual but Sydney skies are hopeless so why not sell the C11 and get a C9.25 OTA which should fit on my EQ6. Then I can still have visual but try some longer FL stuff as well.

I am pretty happy with this one, despite the tiny size as it shows me I may be able to get something out of the SBIG if i perservere with the focus.
