View Full Version here: : Lighten Up
well I haven't been able to do much photography of any sought lately but I had a little time the other night after work to take some shots I've wanted to do for a while.
This is what a lighter looks like at 4000th of a second, some of them look like mini nuclear bombs others took me by surprise as I would have never Imagined that it could look like that.
so here they are.

Cool! ...and very well done!
So tell how you did it... settings, anything special, etc...
Al.
It was hard to get the timing right.
I set the camera up on the tripod and set it to the fastest shutter with f5.6, light the lighter and got it sought of focused seeing as I was holding it in front of the camera and used the shutter release cable to take the shot. Only thing to do after that was to get the timing right.
To get the timing right required a bit of getting used to, You have to set the shutter of first then the lighter almost instantly after, I had a lot of frames that had just a boring flame or even more boring black. Just perseverance manged to get some good ones.
Other problems included shots out of or on the edge, to far out of the focal point, saw thumb and the odd burn.

Cool!
I wonder how many images you had to capture before you got it just right?
I seem to remember another one of our members spending an overcast evening trying to capture a match igniting. Can anyone remember who it was?
I'll be attempting a match soon, plus whatever else I come across
