Hi All,

I have been keeping a close eye on the images from SOHO lately as we are about to come out of the minium of the 11 year cycle. Finding my old film shot of the Southern Auora sparked my interest to keep a close eye on the sun for a while.

In the last couple of days there has been some sun spots on the face of the sun, a good time to put the filter on the scope and take a look.

I find it very interesting to put these images taken over time together to make a gif file which clearly shows the sun rotating.

Check them out, I am sure you will find them interesting, these are NOT my images but those of SOHO which I have made into a gif animation.

Nice work Chris!

Animated gifs are also available on the SOHO site, at:

http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime/gif/

These incorporate 48 hrs worth of data, but they're massive files unfortunately, and a pain to download...

Hi Bob,

I also found the animated gifs on the SOHO site. Unfortunately for me, I live in an area that does not allow me to have even a modest broadband service, so I had some trouble finding and downloading a gif animation of a time frame that had some features of interest.

This was a simple way to put together some selected frames of what I was looking for and keeps the total file size realatively small.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Bob,

Just letting you know, I enjoyed watching your animation of the 2007 Total Lunar Eclipse which you posted on your web site. The sky was totaly clouded out here at the time so we did not get to see this dispite having the scope all setup just in case there was a clearing.

Thanks again.

Chris

Thanks Chris. Yes, the SOHO gifs are painful even with a 'modest broadband service' I can assure you! Nice idea of yours to short-circuit the 'overload' by using selected images - really shows the dynamic nature of the sun.
