taken on 9/3/08 i only partially processed this one and found it today, just finished it quickly. its gum 30 (near eta carina neb)
shot with the trusty g11 and 12 inch newt, about 1 hr of 6 min exposures @ iso 800 and cannon 300d.
had a bunch of dramas with the neighbours lately, i tried being nice for a long time but that didnt work , so finally i told them either you turn of your floodlights or i put in 20 meter trees to block you out and goodbye views:mad2:.... seems to have worked for now( note theyre not talking to me now and i dont care). ive put in a blurry pic so you get an idea of what ive had to put up with, taken at the door to my observatory.
i need a holiday so im going fishing to secret location for a week or so ... pic also provided.....

Hi Alchemy
Nice gum!
What lousy neighbors!
Wheres that amazing fishing spot!:eyepop:
Some people just don't get, I would put the bloody 20 foot tree up any way, stick it up em, actually put up a whole row of them , then they might get the hint.
I'm lucky our neighbours are great, just a friendly word to let them know what I do, and no problems.

Nice Gum Alchemy.
To bad that you have some lousy neighbours, I know how you feel. Do they leave the floodlight on all night?

Nice image Clive!
I`m glad we don`t have any close neighbours with floodlights! there is no need to have them on all night! unless they are real paranoid?
Can I come fishing too! what a lovely spot!
cheers Gary

Very nice image, good to see a sky background that is not jet black (no such thing) lovely colour too.
Neghbours with floodlights :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:. My neighbour in Newcastle has his floodlight pointed dirrectly at his clothsline so when his wife feels the need to hang out washing at 10pm my whole backyard gets lit up too! :screwy: I did mention it and he was happy to angle it down to the ground if I asked, of course it always ended up pointing back at my yard the next day though, I suspect his wife felt her night time washing was VERY important..? :screwy::screwy: Of course it is linked to their patio floodlight too isn't it??? So in the early evening everytime they go out under their entertainment area which is on the oposite side of the house the washing gets lit up on the other side (my side) of the house too!! Sheesh I hope Earth Hour teaches these imberciles! Even though they were accomodating when I did, I gave up asking as I felt I was anoying them, luckily the lights are on a 3min timer only so I only have to stand so my camera is in shadow for 3min :doh:when it comes on and they seldom come out after 11pm so the real astronomy hours stay dark  I avoid pointing the scope in the direction of their cloths line (North) before 10-11pm as an improptu floodlight would be sure to ruin the sub underway at the time :scared: Luckily I haven't really imaged anything in North the past year and we are about to move house now :hi:.......to where I will see no sky at all.......

Hi Alchemy, put in Powton trees they can grow up to 5 metres a year and have leaves the size of elephant ears, they would be perfect for blocking out unwanted light.
Gum 30 is a beauty as well, a lovely image.

you have a great view Alchemy and im sure you have pretty clear skies at your end. the scenery is beautiful!! i wish i had that. :( too bad about the neighbours flood light. If i were you, i'll get myself 10 x flood light and shine it back at his place at 2am through all of his windows!
enjoy your holiday and catch a few breems for me :)

thanks for the comments guys,
RE the lights, it might belong over in general chat but i thought it was very applicable to my imaging and you are the guys i talk to most.
A bit of background about the lights..... they built their house over the last two years, i supplied power for 8 mths for them, made myself friendly, explained what i do, made some helpfull suggestions about the benefits of cut off lighting etc, lent them tools when needed. he said Yes i understand and i thought great . My reward was he has put up 6 yes thats SIX floodlights on the outside of his house, those cheap shoot everywhere versions, plus 3 other lights at the back door and who knows how many at the front.
this came to a head after floodlights were left on ALL YES THATS ALL night 5 nights out of 7.
Note they have moved into the house without a C of O have i dobbed them in NO
They changed the windows overlooking my house without changing the plans have i dobbed them in NO
They built a large shed without a permit have i dobbed them in NO
They built in a road in the wrong location cutting down environmentally prtected trees, did i dob them in NO
i could just about bury these people in trouble if i was that way inclined, all i want is a bit of respect and privacy, if they want lights they should move to ST Kilda (inner suburbs) GRRRRR guess ive vented enough now... i needed to.
2 Secrets up for grabs here one already blown (gary h)...... my name is Clive
the other the u beaut fishing spot, New river lagoon on Tassies south coast supposed to be full of trout and as its a 2-3 day WALK to get there, not fished often.... im heading off in a couple of days, boat paid for, hiking gear almost packed ...... if i catch a few i will let you know, in one of the other forum catagories.
Clive.

Nicely balanced colours in the image Clive.
Your neighbours would have more than tested my patience that's for sure.
Lets hope they become more reasonable to deal with.

The neighbour is comitting Light Trespass (http://www.cooke.id.au/Vision_2020_Submission.pdf)
Its not just astronomers, but nature that is suffering, and with the growing greenhouse threat, it should be becoming easier and easier to shut down these idiot light wasters. It might be worth having a talk to your council, as light trespass might in fact be illegal. The neighbour is also an enviromental vandal for making a whole lot of un necessary CO2 by using all that extra electricity.
When the co2 trading scheme comes in some think power costs might sky rocket, the good thing if that happens these idiots will have to turn off the lights.

fascinating document youve attatched there, might just print up a copy and send it to the neighbours.
i approached the council with a general query on lighting without giving names, if it was a tennis court they would act but otherwise not interested. as always they want your money but nothing else.:P
the anger has dissipated as the lighting has not been so severe lately, mind you i havent been able to image due to moon and weather.
i am considering ezys idea thought of fighting fire with fire, peter ward is selling those 250 watt green lasers hmmmm;)

Mate you think you got bad neighbours? Mine killed my 2 year old pet cat last week (my third) and throws water and soil over the fence on my OTA when I'm not looking? I should name my next cat "kenny" :screwy:
Sound like the neighbours from hell Marc.
I actually find that quite distressing to here about people like that who would damage property and harm animals.
