As the title says looking for any active astronomy groups in Caboolture or North Brissy. Reason is i want to experience some different styles of scopes before i put my hard earned down. A bit of general star gazing info/education along the way couldnt hurt, ...................could it?

Normally I'd suggest getting along to the dark sky night up here at Cambroon on the SSC, but there won't be one this month. The Barambah Dark Sky Camp is on the weekend we would normally have it. So maybe you might want to go along to that and check out the scopes. See the Star Party and Observing Sessions forum for details.

G'day Paul
I was hoping there would be a Cambroon night coming up soon. Might have to hold out for the next one. Might try and check out the Barambah Dark Sky Camp. I 'll have a look in the events section.
cheers

Mick please do consider coming along to the Dark Sky Camp at Barambah - a possible 5 nights to check out other peoples scopes, have a look through various types of eyepieces, and generally meet plenty of other "locals" face to face for some quality relaxation and astro chat!
In terms of scopes we currently have bookings from various sized dobsonians (and their owners ;)) ranging from 8" to 25" (and all sizes in between) plus some SCT's and Mak's and I think some standard refractor's. Hopefully there will even be a 360° rotating/reclining binocular chair fitted with 20x80 triplet binos.
(IF I can get my finger out and finish all the fiddly bits in time that is!)

Speaking of the Barambah camp Paul are you coming after all? We haven't received a registration from you yet......

Cheers guys, i have also found the urban observers link on here

Might be able to get along to the next one. Unfortunately work gets in the way of Barambah.
I think this is probably the smartest thing a person could do. Have a good look at the skywatcher EQ mounts, there is bound to be some up where your heading and their selling at insanely cheap prices at the moment.
[if you dont mind spending $1000 on a mount for a telescope that is  ]

Definitely check out a good variety of scopes that are actually in use.
You don't want to make a $2000 avoidable mistake, save the money for the inevitable aperture fever upgrade.
