I had the tracking platform out the other night for the ISS so I thought I'd experiment and have a bit of fun with the fisheye lens.

Here's the Emu rising late at night.

Hope you enjoy.

Yes, nice image Andrew.

I've always wondered what footy colours the emu would have on that scarf he wears around his upper neck!

Ha - Ha's: bein' a biased blackfella I'sa jist luvs dat shot RB! Dat ol' man emu, 'e jist looks so fantastic silhouetted with da milky way, whichus wots iz called down 'eres da "wodli parri" - da "great river," runnin' throughs dat "womma" or great celestial "plains."

What was your gear bro - the "tracking platform" (dis 'mosts sounds likes youse pinchin n'udder of me's mobs inventions!) and what was the gear, and exposure details; and lastly, what's the illumination you've picked up there down on the right hand side?

Questions, questions....cheers, Darryl.

Dese days Mike, Ize actuallys preefers me pair of "whitey's eyes" - I calls 'em "Long Tom" an "Fat Henry" - an jist looks at all dat lovely "game" up in the skies.

But whens I gits the feelin for a bit of tucker, I must 'fess I likes to cracks a "red" - an' make a spread o' the cheeses an' home brewed olives an' fresh baked breads wif me own olive oils an' other delights I creates - taint nuffin like a good, friendly gatherin' of blacks an' whites an' reds an' yellows etc!

Cheers, Darryl.

Thanks Dennis, Mike, Eric & Gary, glad you liked it.

I'll certainly give it a try Geoff.

Cheers mate, yeah I know it's a little distracting, the fisheye lens is so wide, I couldn't avoid getting part of the house in there too. I suppose it adds to the dimension of the image though.

Thanks Mr Mike Strongbow, maybe we can hunt it down at SPSP.

Cheers Matty, there's so many aspects to this hobby of ours isn't there !

Glad yah liked it K.man and thank you for the cultural lesson, I love the aboriginal lore and names.

The gear I used was made from an old bull roarer flattened out to be a platform.

It's a tracking platform (Johnsonian) which I bought ready made.
It tracks the sky for around 30 min from mem, see attch photos.

I just put the tripod on and take a long exposure.

The illumination on the right are the house lights, unfortunately unavoidable since I don't have native blood only european blood so I'm as blind as donkey in the dark.

the details of this photo are:

Canon 5D
Canon 15mm fisheye lens
ISO 800 @ f/6.3
210 sec exp.

Cheers

Thanks for that RB - I only got my Round Table Platform (Brian's new motor version) out of customs/freight yesterday arvo: have hooked up with a fella that's doing lectures at our local planetarium on Aboriginal sky mythologies and hope to develope something down the track; and utilizing sky images from outside of the planetarium stuff.....

Your picture that captures terrestial landscape as well has got me thinking.....

That EQ platform gots me thinkin' that mebbes it was a shield you done gone converted: that an' the mention of food in this thread, reminds me of a time ages ago when I was visitin' distant rellies out in community; and was tellin' a coupla uncles about all this telescope business: Uncle Lester says to me, "tell you what, why don't we put summa this new and old stuff together and get real sophisticated like: you get them telescopes you've bin talkin' about out and find out where them marlu (kangaroo) are - then we'll get in the Toyota and go out and shoot 'em!"

Thanks for the info, cheers, Darryl.

Thank you Stuart, Alchemy, Ric and Paul.

Glad you liked it too, I was surprised how it turned out as I was only toying around late at night while I was working on the farm, so only had time for a quick shot.

Oh you're gonna love the Round Table Platform Darryl, it's much more stable and better quality, enjoy !!!

Keep us posted, as I love the ancient Aboriginal stories and mythology associated with this wonderful land we all share and call our home.

Thank you Eric, yes it was only just one single frame.
Unfortunately I was working through the night on the farm and couldn't spend too much time on imaging.
