Hey guys,

I tried to connect up my argo unit to my laptop but it doesn't seem to work properly.

I choose COM 3 or COM 4, Baud rates have been set correctly, startup has been set to navis... And even when I "Connect", I get a "Welcome to Argonaught" message. But I'm not getting the % sign. I'm supposed to click in the white field space and hit enter a few times, but no % sign shows.

Any suggestions as to what I might have done wrong? I have the argo connected via SERIAL 1, and I have yet to do any firmware updates.

Cheers.

Hi DJVege,

The "Welcome to Argonaut" message does not indicate that Windows has
established communication with the device.

Chances are Windows assigned you some other COM port number that you
haven't tweaked to yet.

You are probably using the Keyspan USB Serial Adapter that came with your
unit. This is the best adapter on the market today. On the CDROM that comes
with the USB Serial Adapter is a utility called the Keyspan Serial Assistant.
It allows you to determine and change the COM port assignment Windows
has assigned to the Adapter.

However, you can do the same task using existing Windows utilities.

When you plug in the Adapter, the driver will request the Windows OS to assign it a COM port number.

You can check and even change the COM port mappings by right clicking on
My Computer->Properties.
Select Hardware Tab.
Select Device Manager... button.
Expand Ports (COM & LPT).
Double click on the COM port Adapter that has been currently assigned.
Click on Port Settings Tab.
Click on Advanced Button.
Use COM Port Number pulldown to re-assign to a COM port in the range 1-4.

Select the identical COM port in the Argonaut pulldown. It is prudent to run the
Establishing communication test as outlined in the User Manual to ensure all is working.

You don't need to run this test each time, but it is a good idea the first time.
Be sure to use the correct PC to Argo Navis serial cable in conjunction with your Adapter.

In SETUP SERIAL, make sure that the appropriate Argo Navis serial port is set to the same BAUD rate as selected in Argonaut and that the STARTUP command is navis. When changing the STARTUP command, you need to power the unit OFF and then ON for the new startup command to start.

Thanks Gary. I don't think I installed any driver for the usb -> serial adaptor. Will check out the packaging today, cause I didn't look for / see a cd in there yesterday.

Cheers. :)
