Ive recieved mail from Julia Gillard MP

Hi all
A few weeks ago I applauded Julia Gillard for humourously having a go at the past governments Workchopices in parliament

I loved it, so I sent her an email asking if I could have some of the material, helping her get rid of just a little bit of it. Today in the mail a parcel arrived, with a workchoices folder
a workchoices pen, some phamphlets, fridge magnet and last but not least, a workchoices mouse pad.

One day in the future they may become collectors items, items of a failed policy from a failed government :)

Coincidentally, I met Julia last weekend while covering the Community Cabinet meeting at Narangbah (Bris) for the radio stations for which I work.

I was very impressed with how relaxed and affable she seemed.

One-on-one, she is a very witty and engaging woman and seemed to genuinely enjoy being part of the Cabinet getting out amongst the people.

It is great to hear such news but makes one wonder about the funding of Government promotion...

I dont see how such wonderful legislation needed such heavy promotion...

not like all the other great adds we got about all the nice things the past Government did for us we got day in day out for as long as I can remember..at only a cost of one million per day...

Thats really great Scott, that her office actually responded. This is not a matter who is 'correct' or 'right' (gee I hate that word as it is so confusing) it is about accountability.

I got sent a fridge magnet at taxpayers expense that was not half as exciting.

Yes I am glad her office replied, I knew that in the early stages of a new government she would be very busy , so its good she sent me the stuff. Ironically I was never sent any workchoices fridge magnets, mousepads or pens from the Howard government.

Who knows, in 10 years time any remaining workchoices material might be worth a small fortune as collectors items, as a reminder of an unwanted policy that bought down a long serving government.

Its good to hear Matt, that she is indeed such an affable person, who really enjoys her new responsibilities.

Well, I'll be the one to spoil the party. Our group in Tasmania (Tasmanians against the Pulp Mill (http://tapvision.info/)) wrote to the lady in question (as the minister for social inclusion) regarding the lack of social inclusion in the pulp mill process, guess what we got.... not a single word of reply from the good lady. That really reinforces my opinion that pollies are expert at looking like they're doing something when really they're doing little or nothing.:tasdevil:

acropolite, i cant say i really know what social inclusion means but i guess its about ensuring disadvantaged folk dont get left on the scrapheap. access to education etc.

anyway she should have referred it on to the relevant minister. maybe she did.

its interesting how the political landscape has changed with a 5% change in voter patterns (i bet that'd be higher now though)

my memory is long enough to recall why Unions became necessary in the first place... no one likes exploitation so I ask who now exploits the whalves and education?

I always thought Julia would be our next PM for quite a while ..good to hear
she is still very aproachable .. very few of the previous govts senior
ministers would engage her in any sort of debate I noticed .. with good reason :lol:

I think it was great to see her as our PM (she held the reins when our leader was off OS) if only for a little while..ladies deserve more recognition and I much prefer her as a role model for ladies than some of the poor unfotunates like we see in the US who only offer their inadequacies as fuel for their media existence

I was a union member all my working life, not an "active" one but nevertheless, supported the idea of checks and balances that it represented. Unfortunately the checks from the last government far outweighed the balances. We are well rid of those who got carried away with the misuse of power. How this one will perform, only time will tell.

I must admit Alex, being a "Thatcher Refugee" that the the aforementioned person put me off having a female in a power position for a long time. But I have mellowed in my increasing years and have met a few lady pollies from both sides of the fence who saved me from that distorted view of the fairer sex.
I also noted that in a recent speach our ex PM held up Thatcher and Ronald Regan as figures to look up to, always thought there was something dodgey about that guy ;)

lol yeh i remember their first act as leader and deputy was to head to the depo were many pallets of bosschoices propaganda was stored and were filmed gleefully driving the forklifts with said pallets around to the recyclers - :thumbsup: priceless!
