Couple more Widefields of the Milkyway Galaxy

Hi,

The following were taken on 29 Feb 2008 and are single exposures.

Image 1 is 18mm @F5, 245 seconds, ISO400 and was processed (heavily :)) in CS2. Too much blue remaining but cannot improve as I start to lose detail.

Image 2 is 125mm@F8, 172 second, ISO400 and processed in CS2.

The second is my favourite.

Nice. Can see some DSO in the middle of the second one. Which is it?

I had the camera pointed up towards the Eta Carina area, so I hope that is the one.

That would be NGC3372 aka Eta Carina. This is a cropped vsn of the same area at almost the same scale:

Cool.

So why can't I pick up on all that detail? I get 5 minute exposures max on the Pentax, or otherwise my images are waaayyyyy to noisy.

Daniel you need to take at least 10 exposures of at least 3 to 5 minutes each of the exact area, and than with software, such as Image Plus or similar align/combine, and composite a single image.

So than in effect you would end up with an exposure of 30 or 50 minutes.

This will provide you with so much more data, which you can than take to PS2 and enhance the image.

However a very good effort indeed ;)
