Dear south guys,
Before two weeks I tried to take picture of galaxy M 81 with my Skywatcher 254/1200.

exposure: 10 x 6 min, ISO: 800
guider: Skywatcher ED 80/600 + LPI camera + software Guidemaster
processed: Subraw, Adobe Photoshop 7.0 CE
camera: Canon EOS 350 D unmodified

Lovely looking galaxy, a very nice target.

Did you take flats with this image? There appears to be quite a gradient of some kind around the edges with a magenta type colour cast.

I'm also curious as to the orientation - did you take it in portrait style for a particular reason?

Wow - there is a lot of really nice detail in the core and arms of the galaxy, testimony to good seeing, high altitude, good tracking and skilled operator. A beautiful image, especially from a standard 350D – well done.

As Mike has mentioned, Flats should minimize the magenta vignetting around the edges although I hadn’t noticed it initially, as my eye was drawn to the galaxy.

Must be your winter now, so I guess the 350D was running quite cool at the time!

Cheers

Dennis

Hallo all,
thanks for your reply! I processed my pictures with darkframes and flatfields. But I tried new software IRIS. There is also processing of gradient of background. I applied not good parameters and after processing I found these not good uniform background.

Thanks for your comments! Do you use also IRIS? :)

Nice image there!
Is that amp glow along the bottom of your picture?
Maybe you can subtract it out in PS?
cheers Gary
