M1 and eta Car

Over the last 2 nights I have had a window of about 1 1/2 hours without cloud. Tonight it has been pouring so time to process the pics I took. I just took grabs really trying out my new observatory. Such a luxury not to have to wind up cables etc as the clouds rolled in. Some objects worked and some didn't.
The 2 attached are
M1 - 5 x 5 min exposures only with a stock 40D through my VC200L on a EQ6 guided with guidemaster.
Eta carina- just 3 x 5 mins as above. Flats darks etc as usual.
M1 needs lots more exposure and I have much more trouble guideing when the scope is aiming east of the meridian where it was. Not sure why really. Eta is good for just 3 exposures and the red came out alright.

Is your Canon modified and if not how much processing did you do on the red.

The canon is stock. There is virtually no processing of the image. I just dark subtracted and flat fielded using Iris. The 3 images were median combined and colour corrected with Iris. I didn't do any other processing like sharpening etc. WYSIWYG:D

A couple of beauties – you’re really showing off the optics of the VC200L to their best across the whole frame. There is some lovely detail in Eta carina in particular.

A great set of images at 1800mm focal length.

Thanks. It's interesting about the VC200L. As my only other scope has been an ETX I hadn't realised haw flat the field is with the VC200L until I have been looking through our clubs 14" SCG. It is certainly obvious that there is degredation towards the edge of the field with the SCG compared to the vixen. Just a lucky purchase I suppose when I decided to buy it all those years ago.:)

the m1 shot shows good detail,

ive still got a vc200l sadly gathering dust at the moment but it has a superb flat field straight out of the box.
