With all the cloud this week I've been reworking some old images. I had a Tarantula that was very blue that I've now worked out how to get the colour balance right. What do you think?

Hi Peter

I’m one of those guys who gives everyone a pat on the back just for having a go at imaging, especially long exposure DSO imaging, so well done, it is a masochistic pastime for sure.

Looks good to me.

Cheers

Thanks Dennis. There sure is a lot to learn - that's what makes it interesting.

Hi peter,
On my screen it looks too purple now.
Have you tried using curves to give it that bit more red?
Keep at it...

Gary,

Thanks for the comments. Here's one with a bit more red - what is the trick to knowing how much is enough? Does the histogram reveal this?

I've included my original attempt at processing the same image for comparison. I think I'm making progress??

sure are, stars have varied color, sharper .

Thanks Alchemy, I think I lost the other 2 colour channels with my first attempt at setting the black point. I've been experimenting with multiple points in curves - concentrating the black end and I think this has helped to keep the stars sharper.

Now I have another processing question - why do some imaging processing applications flip the image? I haven't worked out who is the culprit yet (or which way is up) but I have noticed this with some of my images including this one.

Second go looks much better :)
Can`t help with the images getting flipped but?
Never had that problem.
