Which filter for nebulae?

Hello all :) Nice to meet you, I'm derek

I'm a complete n00b and would like to know which of the following filters you guru's would recommend for viewing nebula's and DSO's in a light polluted site as well as a dark sky site.

Should I go the :-

Astronomiks UHC or the
Lumicon OIII, Deep Sky or UHC or even the
Baader UHC-S

I'm doing my research but the more i look the more options i aquire. Too many options can lead to indecision :doh:..which is kind of where I am at now.

I would be grateful for any suggestions :)

Oh, I also quite like my SP32 2" eyepiece ..luv it actually..(i only have one atm) and would like to purchase more of these in future...So should I get a 1.25" filter (which i have 6 eyepieces) or a 2" which will be the eyepieces i will be buying in future, or are 1.25" wide FOV :eyepop:eyepieces better than 2" eyepieces???? I'm reading everywhere on the net that ppl are moving to 2" eyepieces.As you can see, things have gotten out of hand for this newbie, when i find a hobby I learn quickly but it can be a curse ..I have no idea what type or size of filter to buy ..please :help: me :sadeyes::lol:

Hi Derek

In my opinion the best all round nebula filter to start of with would be the DGM / Omega NPB Nebula filter. This filter will give you good results on a much wider range of nebula.

We have this filter in 2" and 1.25" and you are more than welcome to call in and view through them.

Yep the DGM gets the most votes as a good filter at an unbeatable price.

Hi Derek i'm in Mount Evelyn too.
I have the 1.25' meade series 4000 broadband filter.
If you want you can have a look trough it.

Agreed...if you are going to have 1 UHC type filter, I think this one is nice...and with the current exchange rate with the USD$ a really good value.

I am also fond of the DGM OIII filer...it is a little "different" from other OIII filters I've used and I quite enjoy the view.

Derek, The DGM filter is a great buy, if you have a 2"to 1.25" EP adapter it will be threaded for a 2" filter but be mindful that some filter barrels are longer than others and may contact the filter, a simple fix is to cut a slice of electrical conduit to the correct thickness and drop it over the EP before installing it into the adapter.

Looks like the DGM is the G.O.
I had not heard of that filter before now so it was good to get your responses to make a decision. I had a look back over posts here in IIS and learnt a fair more about them.
