hi, I have just joined Ice in Space.

I bought a new C 9.25 CPC last week.

I was surprised by just how heavy it is and it is a bit awkward to fit into my car/s.

I am fitting a sliding counter-weight system to the OTA to counter balance the various heavy eyepieces and 2 inch diagonal that I use in it. I have a Nagler 13 and 20 plus a TeleVue 32 and 40.

I also own a C8 NexStar and a home-built 381 mm Dob, fitted with Stellar Cat go-to and an Argo Navis DTC.

The CPC is for club field nights when I am too lazy to set up/tear-down the Dob or when I am not modifying it to improve its performance.

Welcome to the forum Doug. I spoke to you at lengths one night on a SASI viewing session at Waterfall. I think I picked your brains out on your Obsession clone - its a beauty. I was really impressed how the truss poles connected to the lower tube assembly, very unique.

BTW: I must attend SASI again soon, I'm in the bad 'books' no pun intended with Vic!

hi Norm, yes, the truss pole locking system operates very well indeed. The surprising thing is that it is one of the three methods recommended by Dave Krieg in his book about how to make a dobsonian telescope. Admittedly, making the truss pole seats requires a lathe but the resulting pole locking is outstanding and I cannot understand why everyone else doesn't use that same design! In my dob I have also designed a secondary mirror holder that can be accurately adjusted by hand (without any tools) even when wearing a thick winter glove! This design makes collimation very very easy. I believe the design to be unique. I haven't seen it copied yet. Regards, Doughttp://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/happy19.gif
