I purchased an 8" Dobsonian and finally took it out to the Stargazers night. Before this I had been able to see the moon and Jupiter and the double star of the pointers. Following the night at the meeting I have came home and have been able to find Omega Centauri and the Jewel Box.

This has really kick started things and I am looking forward to finding more clusters, double stars and whatever else is out there.

Mackay Stargazers have been really helpful as has this forum.

Congratualtion on your success. There will be no stopping you now

While its been 25 years since I've been through Sarina, I would imagine it would still be one of the few places on the East coast where good dark skies are only half an hour drive away. Lucky you.

Well done Richard. All you need is a Planisphere to help you locate a few more.
Ken & Geoff, you could start with these.... :D L.

Richard,

Might I give you my recommendation :) I say go for all the globulars. They are the most spectacular (in my opinion) DSO's and can keep you entertained for hours on end (especially since you have an 8" scope which would make easy meat out of the brighter ones). Since you have Omega Centauri, try 47 Tucana (don't know if it is too low at this time of the year though, Tucana near the SMC), NGC 6397 (Ara glob I think), NGC 6752 (Pavo glob I think), M4 (Scorpius), M22 and M55 (Sagittarius), M10 and M12 (Ophiuchus) and M13 in Hercules. There are heaps more in the the last two constellations. Now is a great time to be observing globs!!!!!
