Anteresting afternoon with an eq6

Well I have started dismantling the eq6:eyepop::scared:... the best site I could find on how to do it was in Spanish but the fish helped out:P...mind you it took me a while to find out what the "mall pillow" is (I think its the main body of the mount) and I have still to work out what is the Bisinfin but at least the mall pillow is thrown from the the outside of the mount....;):whistle:

But now the photos dont match what is before me:eyepop: so I am taking a break:D.

I need a rest so I will be up to an inspection of the "bisinfin" and the "corona"....mmm the Corona must be that big brass ring with the gears (Corona of the Sun round and sortta yellow) and the "bisinfin" will be the worm drive (teeth like a bisinfin maybe?):shrug::D

But like all things what a pain until something gives... the first instructions I found indicated the bearing would fall out no problems...but it was screwed in:eyepop:.. lucky I did not hit it too hard with the axe and used "the key plumber" :)( a plumbers wrench I guess because that was the only thing that moved it);)...

What a wonderful thing is the net and the fish in the net:thumbsup:.

Sounds like you are having fun. I almost got caught out overhauling my Vixen GPDX when the “How to” showed a photo covering the removal of a component by undoing a teeny grub screw; only on my mount there were 3 at 120 degrees explaining why it wouldn’t shift after undoing the one!

Good luck with the rest of the disassembly and overhaul, re-build etc.

It was the link to that site in a recent Iceinspace thread ;);) that started me off.:D..

He said he would not go into the dismantle thing as there were plenty of sites:whistle:..well when I looked the other night the site I wanted came up and it seemed to handle the dismantle but today I could not get it...anyways I got onto this from a link from a link and I think your link was the start of the link process..

AND Thanks Dennis for the encouragement. One of the grub screws when I re tightened it as it seemed to be ok to stay in place screwed out the other side and dropped into the polar scope in front of the EP I did not see it drop and could not figure where it went because it was not on the floor.
Finally I worked it out and got it out.

I was tempted to use the Russian spanner:scared:..a hammer and a screw driver to bite into the rim ;)..so it could have been a real international event:lol::lol::lol:...

Pretty simple once you have done it:thumbsup:.
I am very impressed with the insides much better quality than I expected really:thumbsup:.

AND Phil after re reading that site you referred to I noted that he had pulled the mount down to fix the same noise I have..after pulling the mount down he realised that you could do that adjustments without a pull down...just as I worked out now....but like him I am happy for the experience I am now an expert in RA eq6 pro mounts..almost:lol::lol::lol:
Anyways I will clean it remove high spots on the worm gears with the angle grinder:scared:;) , replace the "fat" (Spanish translation via the fish for greese:P) and see how many screws I can save in the reassembly:whistle:.

Yes thank you Eric..I found that site when up North but all the time I have been down here (2days) I can not raise the site...Internet Explorer can not display page etc...tried 5 times today and agian before I posted this... I remeber it was good but I could not remember specifics... so now that I am past the worse its not so bad.

I can see various things I can do to improve what is there...
Anyways I dont know what happened to that site...but thanks very much for thinking about my problems I really appreciate it.

Yes it is funny well to be kind amusing...:whistle::lol::lol::lol:
I looked up from his side bar...fish training..well I saw the "myth busters " do some fish training so I looked...it was PE training you do with your mount to smooth out the periodic error...amusing:lol::lol::lol:... I will now train my fish using the illuminated glass I guess:P..

But what a great thing is the net and the fish to be able to at least grasp sites in other languages...the Chinese sites are funny... some things are way off...cant think of an example but its worth a look one day.

Anyways I thought I would add this...
I have been cleaning the worm gear itself... I could feel litel bumps with my fingure nail and say this if you are cleaning one it will surprise you how hard it is to clean out all the gunk..and on intial inspection after the greese had ben removed it semed clean.. it took hours to really clean it.. I found like a very small thread wapped around only after cleaning with a car polish wax and carburetor cleaning fluid..all I can think is a small spider has got in there and the web wound around the worm.. and maybe the small bumps were sqaushed prey once in his web... but my point is it is not as clean as one thinks ..Ihave inspected every inch of the track and the "corona" indents and now clean they look rather good.. I have not lapped the gears and will reassmeble the mount without greese as I think there is an advantage to be gained by using a very light machine oil..I plan drillng a hole to dap a little oil sparingly as it is needed... maybe spray the inside to keep out insects as well...
For anyone pulling down their mount I found the only confusing thing was how the conical bearing was held in..and so you know there is a flat washer that screws in in front and holds it in place. I nearly amde the mistake of thinking the bearing only needed to be pressed out..lucky I did not get out the flywheel puller...

I may even reassemble without any oil to locate high spots in the gear system but I feel short of a lap job the gears are meshing rather well all the small indications of wear show all gears are ok but with greese all the high spots may not have shown up...
