View Full Version here: : Hmmmm. whats happening
Hi Guys,
Seems like there has been a little friction of late about certain threads, and none of it has to do with Astronomy, some members are clearly upset and had moved on. just an observation.

same ol' same ol'? funny how those threads are the most popular tho, waaaaay more than most- a contradiction?
some people are just too delicate for the rough and tumble?
anyway back to the endless riveting acquisition and disposal of goods threads :zzz: i shop therefore i am

Yes Leon, your right. Honestly, IMO the concern is probably more due to deliberate little irritations generated by commercial or institutional bodies and the disregard they display to the whole astronomical community. Sometimes these irritations just boil over, more in getting things "off ones chest".
However, I think that the majority of threads here are under General Chat, and the diversity of possible posts will often lead to passionate or significant debate. However, if you are truly after astronomical information, there are many other threads under different subjects within the forum - I can recommend them openly for there friendliness and idea of community.
If others are really slightly uncomfortable with the friction, at least they can read details on more astronomical subject. Sometimes things have to be said - at least to clear the air. Just an observation.

OK. Fair enough. Just please don't tell me "Sense and Sensibility" is going to be on next week...
As for the "wit and humour", next you'll subject us to her unpublished work "Lady Susan", where the reader is subjected to intricacies of literary motifs of feminine gossip and jealousy created in opinions in letter form.
Ie. As Lady Susan Vernon, if I recall; "You were mistaken, my dear Alicia, in supposing me fixed at this place for the rest of the winter: it grieves me to say how greatly you were mistaken, for I have seldom spent three months more agreeably than those which have just flown away. At present, nothing goes smoothly; the females of the family are united against me."
or the saucy Mr. de Courcy;
"What a woman she must be! I long to see her, and shall certainly accept your kind invitation, that I may form some idea of those bewitching powers which can do so much - engaging at the same time, and in the same house, the affections of two men, who were neither of them at liberty to bestow them--and all this without the charm of youth!"
Humour indeed!

I understand your point of view, Jeanette. Mind you, I recently revisited Henry Esmond (Thackery?) as it was one of my texts so many years ago. It is still as awful as it was in those long gone days.
I'd best disconnect my keyboard now as this thread has moved significantly from its original intent.
