Hi,
Well I have some rather unfortunate news...the astro imaging bug has bitten and I have been forced to shell out some dosh for a Skywatcher ED80 :D:D.
Seriously though, the 8" in the HEQ5 is too much to have to concentrate on, with the vibrations (although it is fine for regular observing), the fact that I have to climb a ladder every time I want to do anything at the eyepiece and all of this on top of trying to learn how to take good photos!!
Dont' know if this is a particularly good price but Myastroshop has them for $595 or $620 delivered with the rings and dovetail.
So for Sydneysiders, I am sorry  but you will have to put up with the rain for a bit longer.
Regards
Daniel...
Hi,
I am assuming you havn't bought it yet, Andrews have them for $499 http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-section-10.htm

Hi,
No I did not and in fact I was so mezmorised by the sweet looking WO Zenithstar II that I didn't even think to check . Unfortunately I have paid for it, so it looks like I will miss out on this one.
The most amazing part of that is that the same scope ranges from $499 at Andrew's to $699 at Bintel??
Thanks :rolleyes::lol:
Daniel...
Mmmm Shiny Things,
Actually on the same site the PROED80 is 800AUD and the ED80 is 499AUD. Maybe they arn't the same scope.
Still, once i got something from Harvey Norman and then saw it somewhere else at 100 bucks cheaper. I went back and complained that they were too expensive :P and they took pity on me and gave me the price difference back, so it may be worth a phone call?

Hi,
In my...even more ignorant days :P...I went to Harvey Norman and bought a 128meg stick of memory for my PC, it cost $640.00 for no name brand  (I didn't know anything about PC's then). The following week I saw a 128meg stick of Kingston memory for $149.00. I have never bought any other thing at Harvey Norman!!! :mad2::mad2::mad2:
Regards
Daniel...
yes, i noticed that, too.
i wonder what the difference is...
The skywatcher site does not list two products, only the 80ED PRO.

I think they're the same scope. It appears the ED80 is the bare OTA, and the ProED80 is the same but comes with a diagonal, two eyepieces (LET 9mm and LET 20mm), and a carry case.
Of course, I could be wrong.......
Oh, and the price range is even wider, they're $1147 at York Optical !!
Cheers,
Jason.

Most of the ED80 branded OTA's are the same (Orion, Saxon, Skywatcher), colour is the only difference.

Watch out you're comparing apples with apples and the scopes are the same - we keep seeing folks mix up the standard ED80 with the Pro version. We've even see dealers do this!
Cheers
