i shoot at f16 plus whatever the exstension throws on top and use the flash for extra lighting even in broad daylight :)

shutter speed and lighting have nothing to do with dof at all. DOF is controlled thru the aperture and magnification used. the more magnification the narrower the dof, the less aperture (higher the f#) the more dof...
