Hi Guys, as of today I promise I will never bag you guys about all the clear nights that we have been having of late. :whistle:I'm very sorry ;)

Yesterday, clear all day perfect evening, crystal clear no wind, dew etc, all ready to go at 11 pm, beauty, fire up the camera, and were off, yep you guessed it, large ban of cloud cover from the South East. :sadeyes: :sadeyes: :sadeyes:

I wait for an hour for it to clear, not on your life, clouded out all night.

Karma is a wonderful thing. However when you have had months of cloudy
weather it isn't really nice to be bagged about it.

I know that feeling Leon, I had everything setup and ready to go last night. I was just about to start imaging and in came the cloud for the rest of the night.

I think that in my case my excitement of the first clear night in ages acted as a cloud magnet.

That's exactly what occurs here in cloudy old Melbourne almost every night. Probably shaved a year or two off my life from the rage it causes :mad2::mad2::mad2:

Now tonight I'm making an 80km trip each way to a dark sky site - if it clouds over just after I arrive, there'll be HELL TO PAY

Yep Leon, it was certainly a wierd night. I too was all set-up after a glorious day. The weather report was for clear sky all night. The night came with crystal clear sky, no wind, cool temp, and I started imaging around 10:30pm. About half an hour later nothing was showing up on the imaging or guiding monitors. :scared:

Poked my head outside and yep . . Solid cloud. It stayed all night. :(

This morning was clear as a bell again :shrug:

I'll see what happens tonight. So far so good . . . again.

Well I might aswell forget about my trip. I already can see that ****en, native-to-Melbourne strato-bull**** coming in from the south. The satellite image confirms this, with a big patch of airborne vomit already beginning to envelope Western Port Bay and Wonthaggi, with plenty more pushing up from Bass Strait. Typical, just typical. Time to search north of Melbourne I think. No point settling on a place where 75% of the year is cloudy.

[EDIT] The crap, which was on my southern horizon 10 mins ago, is now visible out of my north-facing window. So rage inducing. Just outrrrrraaaaaagggoouuusssss

Me too, Leon. I shot my mouth off a couple of days ago about the brilliant weekend we had coming. Yep, Friday night was good, with good company, but I wasn't at dark sky nor could I have an all-nighter. Saturday night, I drove off in clear skies, but the clouds appeared as I approached my observing site, then cleared and I did get in an hour, but then, over they came, with a steady wind. The annoying part was breaks kept appearing, giving me a few minutes viewing every 10-15 minutes, so I didn't give up for hours! Well it was pleasant being out under the sky. But, quiet as a mouse for me from now on!

^^man you mustve been pissed when you saw those clouds. I'm so glad I went with my gut and stayed home. Spared me 2.5 hours of driving and 30 bucks of fuel, not to mention the packing and unpacking! As usual, forecast spectacular weather ends up being craptacular. What a characteristic manifestation of Melbourne climate.
