I happened on this object almost by accident. It is an open cluster with a small planetary nebula in it. SkymapPro 6 gives the same number to both objects and then calls the PN 2818a
NGC Project (http://www.ngcic.org/ngcicdb.asp) calls the PN 2818 in the current database but then calls it an open cluster in the visual observation.
Nevertheless it is a nice object. The cluster is nice ~9arcmin loose collection of stars with the 1 arcmin PN on the western side of the cluster.
My colour image was just a grab of 4 x 300 sec using my 40D. I also took 4 x 300 sec pics using my genesis CCD through a lum filter only. It is much more sensitive than the 40D and shows more structure than the colour pic.
I think this object is worthy of more time if this rain goes away!

Nice image Terry, you'll have to show me again how you process images through Iris!! I have the PDF tutorial but i'd like to see how its done and ask some questions from what i have done with the M51 test image in Iris.

Cheers!

Terry,
For you interest I have placed a pdf article giving you some more background information on this cluster and planetary nebulae. Hope its useful.
These are nice pictures, and often made better when found unexpectedly.

Andrew :)

Thanks Andrew and Terry. The PN is mag 11.5 and 85" across. Dunlop did well to see it.

Hey, that kind of looks like my object I had in "40D - DSO's"...maybe they're the same

Great imaging though.

Your right they do look a bit similar but I somehow think that at:
Right ascension: 9h 16m 21s
Declination: -36° 39' 3"
Constellation: Pyxis
It is a bit far south. From mid USA it will reach about 12 deg above the southern horizon. Very good challenge object.:D
