I dont & never will use that polar scope illuminator on my EQ5. Hate seeing things go to waste, so I came up with this idea :D The dew shield is just thin plastic glossy on the inside, helps to bounce around the red light to fully illuminate the FOV. Variable brightness as well.

That is a brilliant idea - thanks for posting! I was contemplating drilling a hole near the eyepiece of my finder and your idea spares me the risk of doing this in the wrong spot, and missing the cross hairs.
Cheers

Hi Dennis. I was going to go down that road also, until I saw iceman's how-to in this forum, so it's not my idea as such. I was starting to build a 3 globe + AA battery-pack, then I had that thought about using the polar scope illuminator in the dew-shield. It works just fine & took 10 mins. to knock up. With this idea, your not trying to illuminate the cross-hairs...just the field of view to a degree.
Iv'e often thought about those fibre-optic lamps you used to see around.... using the fibre's as cross-hairs...:confuse3:
