Just to prove that I didn't waste last nights clear dark sky.
I took the opportunity to finally learn how to get a half decent allignment on the Cube and then slid the Gstar-Ex into the Ioptron 80mm Refractor.
The image ain't much:whistle:, I took no darks and I need to seriously learn how to master the finer controls on the camera.
But the FOV is excellent, just right for big bright objects and a 2x barlow should do the trick for the smaller ones.
:D

Not bad

But why are your stars...square. That would give a whole new meaning to the Jewel Box Cluster

Geez, it looks better as a thumbnail. LOL
Square stars are "in" at the moment.
They'll be "out" of fashion when I learn how to use my camera.

You're doing much better than me on M42 Jeanette :)

I've yet to attempt it.

Pushing the envelope again Jeanette.

A good effort and the practice will always stand you in good stead. I got rained on last night/early morning in Brissie, but it looks like it might have missed you eh.

Cheers

Good effort JJJ, and I too have noticed the square stars, however don't be disheartened, the heading tells the story, (M42 with L Plates,) I like that.

We all have to learn and have a go, and you did, well done.

Your certainly getting heaps better, Jeanette!

I like the FOV. You can fit the whole M42 in

I took your image into 'Loreal' to get rid of the blackeye stars.

Loreal is a great little program designed only for getting rid of Blackeye artifacts in Astro images. Here it is if you want to download it and use it. It is very simple to use :)

The result after 1 quick run through 'Loreal':

I think you gave me this link once before. But the instructions and menus being in French I couldn't work out how to use the program.
I'll download it again though.
Thanks for fixing the pic. It really makes a big improvement doesn't it.

A fine effort JJJ, a couple more imaging sessions and you will be on your "P" plates.

Cheers

For a first shot I reckon it's pretty bloody good Jeanette.
Here's my very first shot at it if that makes you feel any better
What would that be? M42 without a driving licence?

Marc,
Any recognisable image is a good one when you're starting off.
My very first ones were only smudges.

I agree :) My first pictures were all black. I got really excited the very first time I got one star trail on one of my frames.

I reckon there should be a thread somewhere on this forum where people (professionals included) post their very first shots so we can have a browse.
I'm pretty sure not everybody landed a star in a RCOS with a SBIG ST-11000 first time. What do you reckon?

I agree, but some of us started in the days of film.
It cost me many trips to the chemist (photolab) and many dollars to get anything but fat sausages for stars, then thin sausages,:( donuts:mad2: and finally points.:) No hypered film, unusable focus screens etc..

And now...... I still occasionally have the same prob's.

We should try to dig the old buggers up -I'm game.
