G'Day,
I just sent the company thats selling that item on ebay the following message
and hope that other members will do the same.I'm not sure if it's illegal though.
Cheers
Arthur

Hi,
Are you aware that it's not only "ILLEGAL" to sell so called "Sun Filters" in Australia, but it's also very very DANGEROUS Please,Please remove it from your add,and break it up into small pieces.
Thanks
Arthur

yeah I was not considering those, purely interested in finding out if $200 ish is ok for the scope on its own? I realise it is nothing special but is that a total rip off? or ok for very casual user?

thanks guys

Hi,

It's very hard to say, you may be lucky but if its a wobbly mount and a spherical mirror with cheap eyepieces then it may be a piece of junk. Without looking at it who knows?

It has a very fast focal ratio so would probably have very poor viewing at the edge of the view.

Go and check out andrewscom.com.au and the guang sheng scopes. They are a bit more expensive but in general very good quality for what you pay.

A 200mm dob is $299 and you get better eyepieces.

Thanks for the info.

Old adage of if it looks too good to be true hehe

*sigh* why is everything I think I might want to get into, so damn expensive?? Why couldn't I like collecting sea shells?

Collecting seashells is only cheap if you live near the beach!
