When the moon blew away the clouds last night :shrug:I got some very washed out pics of this very loose Glob in Vela. Tonight the clouds have won and it is raining.:rain:
Image is 5 x 300secs with my 40D through a VC200L guided with a Q-guider and guidemaster. Processed with Iris with darks, flats etc.

I think it is an interesting object as a very loose globular. Almost looks like some open clusters.
Again I have had trouble getting rid of the sky glow. I will have to try again if I ever get a moonless night with clear skies.

Well done Terry. Pinpoint stars and resolved right to the core.
Excellent shot!

Thanks Terry, a great image!
Here is the first description ever made of NGC3201, it was written in 1826 by James Dunlop from Parramatta.
"D445. A pretty large pretty bright round nebula, 4' or 5' diameter, very gradually condensed towards the centre, easily resolved into stars; the figure is rather irregular, and the stars are considerably scattered on the south preceding side: the stars are also of slightly mixed magnitudes."

Thanks all
I like the globulars and they are doable with the full moon around.
