Hi All,

Just sharing my thrid attempt at Saturn :)

Got the frame rate on the webcam down to 5fps this time (as suggested by Matt) and got the exposure to 1/33s.

Seeing was attrocious in Brisbane early in the night, but at about 2am a cold front moved through and when the cloud cleared afterwards I was able to get this image.

I think this one is slightly better than my second attempt :)

Celestron C8 with 2x Ultima barlow for 4000mm focal length;
Philips SPC900NC webcam at 5fps, 1/33s exposure;
Stacked 500 of 1000 frame in Registax;
Wavelet and final processing in Registax.

Have fun,
Doug

A huge improvement Doug! Very well done.

Did you capture any moons?

Did you enlarge the image while stacking?

Hi Matty,

Thanks very much :)

I resampled the image at 2x during stacking.

There is a moon just above the planet (close to touching it) :) I captured this Moon moving in relation to the planet throughout the night but the seeing was terrible on the earlier images. I think this might be Rhea. The image was taken at 2:20am on 25/01/2008 AEST.

Have fun,
Doug

Hi Doug,

To identify the moon you have captured have a look at S&T interactive Saturn utility.

Thanks for the link Matty :)

It is Rhea :)

Are Tethys and Dione in front of the disk there? Are the Saturn satellite events upon us already?

I nudged the saturation up just a touch (+10) in Registax. That's all.
