Hi Guys,

In the meantime when our lucky colleagues from Northern hemisphere observe comet Holmes at zenith, here in the South we have to fight with its very low elevation (even at the best observing conditions).

A week ago I made an attempt to catch the comet from Atacama desert. Interestingly it was passing not far from famous California nebulae and I couldn't miss that opportunity. Unfortunately, the objects were very low: 5-15 deg. above horizon only. On the other hand, high-altitude location of the observatory and clear sky helped me a little bit. Don't blame me too much, please.

The technical details:

Kenko Skymemo, Canon 400D (Hutech modified), 50/1.4 @ 2.8, ISO800, 20 x 3 min

Hi Antu,

Beautiful image. I love it when you can catch an ephemeral object like a comet in the same FOV as a DSO. The quality of the photo is great as well :)

Fantastic shot – I must admit that I have only ever seen the Californian neb once, but I was unaware of the brown/dark neb around the area. We have heaps of cloud/rain about at the moment and to see shots like this is promising, and taunting at the same time.

Beautiful widefield image, excellent work!

I captured Holmes and Tuttle in the same FOV in mid-December, probably the first and last time I'll be able to do that again.

A great image Antu, well done.

The California Neb is also a interesting looking DSO.

Having that elevation really helps..
I have to dodge some powerlines and trees to see it well..
