I have converted a work mate.
He has about $400 to spare to buy a telescope.
Any suggestions or unwanted scopes around for that price?
I warned him off Tasco's, I know as I have one, just as a bush basher.
PM me please rather than fill up the thread.

My "bush basher" does me mighty fine Mike. The only negative thing i would say about my Tasco is that the EP`s are no good which came with the scope, i will, one day get a couple of plossl EP`s and i am sure it will make viewing better with my little fella.

l'm sure Mike didn't mean to offend the little 4 1/2" Tasco, l've got one on an EQ3 that my youngest son uses with a couple of GSO 15MM AND 25MM that l got him and the views are very good, he's more than happy to look through this with just the occasional peek through my 12" SCT. Keep looking up Toetoe.

No offence taken, i just wanted to view the bad side of what Tasco do to us with EP's with middle classed scopes like mine. :scared3:
Sorry if my last post sounded like a dig, it wasn't meant to.

I have read somewhere that the Tasco 4.5" f/8 have a pretty decent mirror. They have a spherical figure but perform very well due to the longer focal length. It is those barlow in the focuser ones that are bad. Like what Peter said all you have to do is replace the ep's with some decent ones and you have an excellent starter to medium scope.

Yeh guy's, it's just my EP's too, gotta invest in some new ones. Maybe I need to collimate also.
I checked out the GSO Dob's, my mate was impressed, me too, I might go halves with my Son and get one. They sound like they have quality EP's.
I didn't mean to have a go at all you 4.5 inch guy's, thats what I have got (for "Bush Bashing") LOL
The good thing about it is, it is easily transported and quick to set up.
The C14 stays in it's observatory, 70 Km's away.

It's just frustrating knowing that companys could easily include a couple of decent EP's instead of the rubbish you get with middle range scopes..:(

I really don't get some of these scope manufacturers. They should just increase the price by a bit and then supply decent ep's and 1 good barlow (instead of the trash plastic barlow's and image erectors the scopes come with). The GS Plossl's are very good for the money and they should be the standard "come with the scope" ep's. They should do away with the Kellner's and SMA's in my opinion.
Anyway....
