Hi All,
Polar alignment still needs work, but here is my version of M42.
22x300 subs.
No flats
132mm Williams optics @ f7 no field flattener
guided by a Sbig ST402 80mm Williams
on a hot night still some field rotation. Unsharp mask and contrast toyed with.

WOW nice start, backwards to what I am used to, and bright. inspiring for future improvement of the results you must be pretty happy with that given your conditions. Whst temp was the camera operating at?

Wow, I think that image looks great. The core is a bit burnt out but the nebulosity and colour look fantastic.

I am thinking of getting a QHY8, how are you finding this camera?

I put it up that way some the running man was the right way up.:)
I agree the middle is washed outm so I have taken some shorter exposures to mask over the top once I work out how to do it. The Helix next I think.
The QHY8 is a bit more work then say a Sbig camera but cost wise it'sgot the edge. It uses the same chip as a D40. you have to muck about a bit with the gain and offset settings. Last years great comet got me back into it. I've had a break from active Astronomy over the last 7-8 years due to health reasons. So I'm pretty much starting over. I had a starlight express camera when they first came out, but never had much success. I also had a st4 auto guider. Which work okay but was a buggar to use compared to the ST402. Attached is a image I took in 98 of M16. It was a pretty good shot for the time. I love this web site it's great to have contact with people all over the world.
And remember gravity does suck.

A very fine image. Do a seamless mask in the core and it will be a stunner. I love the detail you've captured in the cloud between M43 and the running man.

As some have mentioned, a little burnt out, but certainly a nice image indeed, well done.

You've captured some great detail on the outer regions and the Running man looks a beauty. I think that when you apply your mask to the core it will be a fantastic image for sure.

I'm looking forward to your Helix.

Nice smooth colours and detail there.
Yep I need to fiddle with the settings of my Q guider to get the best results but yes they are excellent price value cameras
