Last night I decided to give the DSI another go coz the Toucam hardly works any more.
Because the DSI program takes darks for you and subtracts them, I had to put the lens dust cap on. Then after approximately half an hour of taking darks, the lights got taken.
All up, I spent 3 hours imaging Horsehead, only to find that I had left the dust cap on the whole time!!!!!!!!!!!!
:scared:  :screwy:  :bashcomp: :scared2: :tasdevil:
Here is the image of 3 hours of work!!!!!!!

Amp glow adds a nice touch to the steel grey sky!! Don't forget to add some red.

Eric, it is 'Hottum Pixelus Australis'
oooooo yeah
It was more like . . .   :mad2:
The stupid part is that a window popped open saying 'Darks completed. Please uncover the telescope'.
I just clicked on the 'OK' and commenced taking lights :screwy:

That's sad, hope you had a Man Sized box of Tissues on hand ......
Ken S..t happens mate, I imaged the Rosette Neb the other night and imaged for about an hour, and forgot to put the mount in Photo Mode, it was guiding in Siderial Mode, however it did reasonably well, and yes there were some choice words to myself.

Now that's a very narrow band image of the horsehead, Ken, but I think more exposure is necessary...:P
Commiserations! I can't think of anything off hand but I'm sure I've done similar things sometime.... Thanks for sharing your "human" moment...

I took an hour of luminance the other night still binned 3x from framing the target.
Certainly expletives were produced.
Usually you only do stupid things once.
Cheers
Stuart
See you are not alone we all stuff up sometimes

One reason I usually only do 5 min subs. I've done the binning trick as well but only lost 5 mins.

Hot pixels have come up a treat Ken :P
Hi Ken,
Good to see you joining with your brothers in Sydney and adding some virtual clouds to your image :)
Paul
Been there, done that and it's bloody annoying.
I can sympathise with you on that one Ken.

:sadeyes: ouchhh ken ouch.. i did exactly the samething but not as bad with the same object also but only 2 hours worth of data. I took the ED80 small circular cover off instead of the entire cover. so literally, instead of using 80mm, i was shooting the horsehead in 40mm :screwy:
Ken you know you can clone out those hot pixels, don't you?
