Hi all,

I had my first attempt at photographing the moon through my 5" newtonian (SW135) a couple of nights ago. I used a 20mm ep, and hand-held a Pentax K100D SLR with an 18-35 mm lens set on 35mm. I wasn't sure if it would work, but was quite pleased with the results given that it was a fairly crude approach. The image is centered on Mare Nectaris, and shows the Altai Scarp and surrounding area.

Cheers,
Stephen

Stephen,

great effort - well done. I'm mucking around with a cheap webcam at the moment but my best moon photo is still the one where I just held up the little digital camera to the eyepiece.

You should be really pleased with your result.

YAY!

A great result for the afocal method.

As you've already got the DSLR, I'd be tempted to get a camera adapter and T-ring so you can mount the camera rigidly to the scope. A rigid coupling makes the world of difference.

I agree it would, but if you're ever thinking of going that way beware of the need for backfocus in Newtonian reflectors!

Great shot, it can get quite contagious! hehe

Cheers!
