PN K2-15, ngc2579, Tarantula, Eta carina nebs

Hi, hand a huge imaging fest last night as it was clear and very transparent, and I had Houghys cooled 350D DSLR here, so I did almost an all nighter
Planetary Neb K2-15 in Vela. 2x10 mins ISO400
NGC2579 in Puppis 2x10 mins ISO400, and a full res. crop
Tarantula nebula. 5x10 mins ISO400
Eta Carina nabula 3x10 mins ISO400

All shots using Houghys Astronomik CLS filter as well. Baader MPCC coma corrector also. Sensor temp around 7 degrees C. Ambient temp over 20 for much of the night. 10 inch f5.6 Newtonian, hand off axis guided.

All in all one of the best nights in many months by far in Newcastle.

Thanks. Yes it was like Sydney Airport, never seen so much air traffic about last night. I already ahd to reach for the scope cover when a much bigger plane, or one with very bright landing lights on came over (why do they lave their landing lights on when cruising?) I didnt see that fainter one come over.

Very well guided, excellent focus. The Tarantula has too much yellow/red IMHO. Try balancing in PS with a Tad more Cyan ;)

Thanks for the input Peter. Here is the Tarantula with a little Cyan added. Nebula filters are great in making emissionline nebulae stand out from the sky background, but they do add a colour cast to the sky background, trying to balance that to grey can often make the nebulae colour a bit off.

Very nice images Scott, despite the planes. The mind boggles when I think of what you would achieve at a dark site.:eyepop:

Plenty of detail and colour.:D
Not sure that the tarantula should be so red 'though?:shrug:

Thanks Jeff. Indeed, from a dark site like your place I doubt a nebula filter of any kind would be necessary, just maybe a very light one to filter out airglow only, as thats the only limiting factor you'd get :). Id easily be able to go as long without a filter as I would with one in Newcastle.

Scott, lovely images all. The Tarantualla is stunning, this is going to be my 2nd object to concentrate on, its at the right place when i am done with Orion for the night. As said in another thread i think i need to invest in some filters. I have not looked into filters at all aside from planetary work. Is your camera modified?

There seems to be some debate about it.

Quick note: I was doing some digging as K2-15 was on my observing list, and according to http://www.aanda.org/index.php?option=article&access=standard&Itemid=129&url=/articles/aa/full/2003/11/aah4100/aah4100.right.html , K2-15 is now considered to be a reflection nebula as it has an embedded infrared star cluster.

Yes it seems some may not be planetaries after all, ive come across other objects like that. Some are even listed as emission nebulae and planetaries

Yes it was my busiest night for a while, sadly weather has never allowed an all nighter since.
