On behalf of the Iceinspace forum and moderators, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr and Mrs van der Velden, parents of Erwin who have come to Iceinspace looking for information about Erwins past astronomy interests and friends (Erwin's parents go under the online name of amt41).

Erwins passing affected not only those who knew him personally, but many like myself, who only knew Erwin from his online posts, felt a profound sense of loss and sadness at his passing.

We would like members who knew Irwin and who have any anecdotes to post to contribute to this thread and help assist Erwins parents in finding information about his activities here in Australia.

I'll start the ball rolling by listing this link (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=9329) (Anne, click on the blue link to the left) to a thread about a minor planet being named in his honour.

Please contribute your stories or post links to past threads/posts where there is any information that you may consider of interest to Anne and her husband.

Welcome Mr and Mrs van der Velden.

Just to let you know what an inspiration Erwin was to me. He helped drive my passion for photography of Space. He freely gave me helpful information and encouragement.

He was an inspiration to many.

First of all, a warm welcome Mr & Mrs van der Velden, I hope you are both well. Please say hello to Ilse (Erwin’s sister) and her husband, both of who I met at the Qld Astrofest in 2006.

Here is a link to the post from westsky (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=4480)(David) that broke the very sad news of Erwin’s sudden passing. In that post, there are several tributes and off-site links that honour Erwin’s memory.

Cheers

Dennis
