on ving's advice/recommendation or whatever, i decided to reverse mount my nifty fifty lens this morning and have a go at some macro. it didn't turn out too badly i don't reckon, but it'll take a bit of getting used to, that's for sure, definitely gonna have to purchase some actual reverse mount adapters.

watch out ving!!! the title of macro king will soon be mine! :D

what aperture did you use? looks like kyou had it wide open at 1.8? try shooting at f11-16 to get more DOF :)

i would have loved more DOF in this shot....however...how do you manually change the aperture of the nifty-fifty? short of creating a mask with a small hole in it, that is.

Peobably a dumb question, but how do you hold a lense on backward with rubber bands? and what does reverse mounting do, as in what advantage do you get?

reverse mounting is a quick and cheap way of getting a macro lens setup, i'm not 100% on the science behind it, but my understanding is that because of the way the optics are made, by reverse mounting the lens, it provides 'extra' magnification of the subject as well as allowing you to get closer to the subject. for example, with the nifty-fifty on properly, i could get about 40cm away, reverse mounted, however, my fixed distance is around 10-15cm. see? closer!

as for mounting with rubber bands, that's something that's better explained with pictures, which will have to wait till tomorrow after work, sorry!
