open cluster NGC 2244

Centred in the Rosette Nebula is this open cluster shot as per the following

g11 Mount, 12 inch newt, ed80 guidescope, modified 330d cannon, 25-19 degrees temp dropping,seeing average

processing includes levels ,curves, minimum filter,hue- saturation, reblending with stretched original using hard light blending option to reinstate original star colours to some degree. finished off with a selective contrast mask(very sparingly)

i have also included the original stacked but unprocessed version - i would be interested to know how the Ha responsiveness of this camera compares to other cameras as it would be nice if there was more there in the first place. given theres been a bit of rosette posted by others maybee someone could comment.

Very nicely done Alchemy. You've brought out some exquisite details in the processing. The selective contrast mask appears to be working well for you.

Traditionally, this is a very strong Ha target. As you suggest, it would be interesting to make a comparison on the sensitivity of other cameras. However, I'm not sure how accurate the results maybe. Factors such as how high the target was during acquisition, sky glow limits, exposure times,.., all the way down to the combine methodology used all need to be fairly consistent to make a fair comparison.

great image Alchemy. I did Rosette a few nights ago but i havent had a chance to process it. my unprocessed one pretty much looks like yours maybe even less HA.

i saw your rosette, youve done terrific work with what youve got. maybee i shouldnt complain about how much Ha i get;



Thanks for your tips ive used several of them on this image, theyve helped with the quality of what i can do. youre right about the cameras you need to compare apples with apples, and as theres so many variables it wouldnt be an accurate test.



thanks for your comments, so youve shot the rossette already, if its with the 10 inch it will be a beauty, look forward to seeing it..... youre still putting images out at an incredible rate.... hmmmm..have you tried barnards loop in orion or perhaps the vela supernova renant (even with an ed80 that would keep you out of mischief for a while):D

thanks guys, i have to try to pick the smaller targets to make it work with the bigger scope, ive tried a couple of mosaics but getting similar conditions night after night is problematic., fortunately some of these clusters are situated in some nice locations..... more to come soon in that dept.
