Same as earlier efforts apart from the addition of the 2x tele-converter and shooting RAW.

Focus is still not good. Harder to see as the tele-converter consumes a stop or two of light. It was also quite windy at times which probably didn't help. Will probably stick to more a wider field of view, at least untill I improve.

Arpart from giving the poor old computer heart attacks by shooting in RAW, it seems to produce smoother looking images.

Consists of 72, 30 second exposures all at 2.8.
20 at iso 400
20 at iso 800
20 at iso 1600
12 at iso 100

Plenty to think about

Nice try,
What did you use for the stacking? Surely something automatic?

Focus is a pain but very nice when you get it right. Try bracketing the focus examine each image until the best is reached. Other, there is apparently some software that helps focus.

Keep going I'm sure persistance pays off.

Do you zoom in to check focus after some ISO1600 20s test exposures?

looking good Dean, getting there!

Cheers Mike

Only refocused a few times, got more lazy as the session went on. Will be more patient next go.

Thanks

Focus is critical! It has to be right, or you throw the image away. It's worth making sure it's as sharp as you can get it :)

Watch how I do it via the laptop tonight - you'll be keen to do the same. It's infinitely easier than trying to do it by hand using the LCD on the camera.

Another thing to keep in mind is dew.
If you have a hood, use it on your lens and throughout the night just check that your optics haven't fogged up or you'll be very disappointed when you go to process your frames.

Nice attempt Deeno, looking at the nebula itself it is definitely improving in detail each time. There is a few focussing issues as other members have mentioned but I'm sure you'll get those sorted out.

Cheers
