I remember some time ago everyone was posting Pelican Pictures, now it seems to be flies. Here's a Cicada (http://www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/cicada.htm) 50mm long, I pruned the grass around him to get the shot, as I tried to clear more grass he flew off, over my head growling like a slow revving motor. Details EOS 20D ISO200 1/200th @ F9 F/L 48mm Sigma 17-70, no rocessing applied.

Nice one. It seems to be the season for them. I think we used to call them "Black Mondays" when we were kids, but that was a long tome ago so not sure of the name.
Wow nice one Phil, check out those red eyes ! :eyepop:
Nice DOF too.
Excellent.
His 'front end' looks like one of those tripods out of "War of the Worlds"
Nice detail.

WOW!!!!
I don't get to see any Cicadas any more! We don't get many here.
When we were kids we used to hook them onto out shirts and wear them like a badge
until they unhooked their feet and flew away!
Thanks Phil for the memories
Now Phil that is some awesome shot, ;) how do you get that creature to stand still for you.
Leon

he just sat there, even while I plucked some grass around him for a better shot. In fact he was only a couple of metres away from where I was using a saw bench, maybe he mistook the scream of the saw for a love call...:P
