First light images with new Canon 40D. Very Happy.
Both images are composite images stacked in registax and reduced in size with VSO Resizer.
47 Tuc and Horse head nebula.

Any details? I'm in the throws of getting either a 40D or QHY8 and was convinced to go down this road by a shot I did of the horsehead with an unmodded 350D. After stacking 5x10min shots (iso800) I could barely see the HH. I was just wondering how many you stacked and at what ISO?
Thanks for your time and great shots.
Still leaning towards a modded 40D.

Hi Alan,

Image consists of 4 X 600 second images taken with on camera noise suppression on at 1600ISO. Stacked with registax, levels and curves using CS2 and further noise reduction with noisware. The images were Raw (CR2) images converted to TIF images using the Canon utility then edited up. (Thanks Leon)

I really need to restack the image as there is some ghosting on the horsies head. It was done rather late last night just to see what I got.

The 40 D seems to be a great camera.

fantastic first light images doug. i think the stock 40d h-alpha sensitivity seems more than a stock 350d. at ISO1600, might be slightly too high. neverless, great shot.

Horse head is a little dark, but other than that, great work! ;)

Great images!

I just bought a 40D, so hopefully I'll be able to put it to use in astophotography also. A step up from my D50!
