Hi, I've just purchased a DMK camera but I'm having difficulties in getting my hands on a 4 pin-6 pin firewire cable with power. Does anyone know where I can purchase one from an Australian source? This is extremely frustrating. :mad2: Thanks in anticipation .

Hi Bob
It sounds like you need a powered firewire hub.
Search for "firewire hub" on IIS and you'll find some recent references by Bird and myself. There's a few around and some on ebay occassionally.
If your laptop doesn't have a firewire port, you'll also need a PCMCIA firewire card.
It is very annoying when you get a new camera and can't use it yet.
I ended up selling my firewire one and getting a USB DMK instead, because I didn't want to need any external power to run it.

Thanks Ice for your response.
I have just recently purchased a powered USB 2.0 + IEEE 1394 combo hub but still no success. The laptop does not recognise that a device (camera) is attached. The hub is connected to the laptop using a USB 2.0 cable. Maybe this is the problem.
Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

The LaCie hub I bought doesn't recognise the firewire camera either.. The belkin one I had worked fine with my older firewire camera.
Try looking for the belkin powered firewire hub. It connects to the laptop via a firewire PCMCIA card.
I'm going to have to do the same.
This is what I use for my DMK - no problems.

This is the same as The Imaging Source sell for the DMK.
I connect the power lead to a rechargeable power supply using a cig lighter adapter.

Thanks Craig, could be just what I need.
So the 4-pin is connected to your laptop? Do you use a PCMCIA card or does your laptop have a firewire port? What type of lead and connectors do you use for the power?
I'll contact Luke!

Yes, that's your problem. The hub will not "convert" Firewire to USB, you need to attach one of the firewire ports to the computer.
Cheers
Stuart
I have firewire port.
I use a cig lighter adapter on a lead - just happend to have suitable connector plug for powerlead.
