After a partly cloudy morning, a beautiful clear and sunny sky all afternoon, it was looking good for the overhead ISS pass tonight, a massive -2.5 mag pass almost directly overhead (81deg).
I was also keen for some lunar and Mars imaging, it's been a long time since we've had clear skies!
But what's this? The clouds are starting to come over now..
satellite (http://www.weatherzone.com.au/satellite.jsp?lt=wzstate&lc=nsw&img=sat&ane=1&anf=1&and=1&ana=3&anb=333&anc=3&lye=1&lyf=1)
They'd better go away by 9:15pm!
enraging. Here it was crystal clear all day, now it's 7/8th altostratus.
I plan to view Saturn in the morning so all this crud better bugger off.

hmm maybe i'll be lucky.. just over an hour to go and it's still patchy but clear.
You gonna try some prime imaging on it Mike or a widefield?
I've got friends over so we're gonna just do a visual.

Both, Andrew.. if I'm lucky :)
Unfortunately...the 7-day forecast here is for cloud and showers...:mad2:
It will no doubt clear the day I go back to work.

Well, Christmas Eve I got about 3/4 of an hour of clear sky...just enough time to see Mars and take a snap of the moon to impress the rellies on Christmas Day and that was it...all it's been for weeks now...

Man that was bright! And there was a satellite on the same trajectory on a few seconds ahead of it.. not the shuttle, I wonder what it was.

WOW I'm just looking through the avi I captured, I got some frames! Yeh baby!
Oh wow that was bright, it flared at one stage which really freaked the guys out, it was the first time they'd seen it.
Also saw the other two satellites in the same trajectory.
Great show !
Can't wait to see what you got Mike.

I am so sick of the sky here recently. We haven't had a decent night for at least a few months. It's just constant cloud. What have we Queenslanders done to deserve this????
It's more frustrating because I have just bought a new scope, don't know when first light will come.
well surprise surprise - after clear all day, its cloudy. Yeah
I had a nice clear night last night, the first in months. Captured a few images and had a beautiful view of the ISS whizzing over as well.
Our fluffy friends arrived around 1:00 am to spoil the show as usual and I was packed up and in bed by 1:45 am. Still it was great to get out.
Cheers

I have Sat/Sun/Mon nights away with scope under dark skies!
Here is the forecast.
A bit of wind, but it looks good!

That'll teach me for the:- :poke:
Three nights away. First night - somewhat annoying cloud. Second night - quite annoying cloud. Third night - extremely annoying cloud!
Still, the cloud breaks and nightime warmth (no dew) were better than nothing and I saw several new target stars, clusters and galaxies! :)
^^ over my last 3 obs sessions - it was perfect clear during the day only to have cloud move in at sunset and continually interrupt me  Then miraculously at sunrise, everythign disappears only to return at sunset again

still clear here but temp at 33.7 its a small and slow change , still that might be ok , i checked the jetstream earlier and it didnt look too bad... time will tell
Yer the temp is in no hurry to drop here either. 29慢 and humid. Hopefully dew won't be an issue later on but my southern horizon is now quite hazy.
As for the Jetstream, yeah I agree it doesnt look like a big one. Last night stars were only slightly twinkling.

I'll head out tonight - probably backyard.
Im really tired but I'm busting to try my new TV Barlows and Powermate :D
last night was supposed to be nice and clear, but as usual a bloody fugly deck of that infamous and horrible low level stratus tripe moved in just in time to ruin any chance of astronomy, and only now it all cleared off
oh well, lets see what tonight has to offer. However no doubt it'll be windy this time
2 days of marsy goodness in one week! :D

I spent 6 days in Lightning ridge, only 1 out of 6 was cloudy!
I reckon if you want clear skies GO WEST!!!!!!!
1 drawback though, its very wet out there, and mosquito's eat you alive!!!!!
bah! The mosquitos eat me alive here! Last time i was out I reckon I got bitten atleast 25 times.
