My girls.. :) Eliza (6.5yrs) and Abbey (3.5yrs) at their Dancing Concert the other week.
Taken handheld, without a flash (wasn't allowed), ISO1600 at 1/300s shutter.
Canon 350D + 75-300mm lens.
Curves (to brighten) and noise reduction in photoshop.
Thanks for looking.

Very nice portfolio Mike – the 3rd one with the other (out of focus) dancer in the background almost looks like a photo against a full length mirror, a very nice composition.
Not using flash has actually added a lot of atmosphere to the photos. Looks like the girls are heading for a career on the stage or catwalk eh!
Cheers
Dennis

They grow up way too quick.

Grumble, grumble.
My wife attended my granddaughter's ballet exhibition a week or so ago in Granville. Cameras were not allowed to be used - flash or no flash. I'm not quite sure why that was so. Perhaps because of certain types of people or just that the organisers wish to make a bit of extra money from the official photographs.
Damned annoying though. My wife was most disappointed.
Well done, Mike. Some nice images in there.

Hi John
We weren't allowed either, but I was far enough back (and with a big enough zoom) that I could do it discretely.
You're right - they want you to buy the DVD!

I have 3 little princesses and the end of year concert is always a treasure something you will never forget. Great photos Mike, they can go on the desk at work.

I can understand the reasons for this in a professional production, theatre, concert, ballet etc, but why should it be thus in a amateur situation? You have paid for the lessons, it's your children who are performing, the Studio wants customer satisfaction and will get some (free) publicity out of it from happy parents.
Maybe the Ballet School could be persuaded to see matters in a different light. (No pun intended;))
The parents have charge over their children's rights, so if parents refuse to cooperate in the exploitation of their children for the financial gain of others without adequate recompense, the Professional, or the Dance Studio, would be unable to take photos. You then have a bargaining point, and that could be the ability to take your own photos during a set period, or from an agreed position, providing of course that there is no disruption to the concert. I know that Professionals have to make a living, but I cannot see that it should be to the detriment of the paying public to take photos of their children.
BTW, some excellent photos.
