Ving,
These are amazing.
We actually have a feature on satellite imaging / listening / watching (with links) in the August issue of Australian Sky & Telescope.
http://www.austskyandtel.com.au/next_issue.htm
It'll be in the mail next week.

Beren,
Actually, the Satellite features are in 2 parts:
1) Satellites in orbit - what their capabilities are (the "good" and the "bad"...)
2) How to see satellites ourselves (such as ISS).
We didn't cover pirate satellite signals in this issue :)

 lol , no the scanner is the type that covers police/fire etc frequencies , always wondered wether it would yield sat frequencies/metoer signals... articles sounds interesting

When the new IceInSpace member map is completed, it will have some very cool features not dissimilar to those google map thingos. But you all need to tell Terry he's a genius so he takes the time to complete it :D

I'd say about 2 years old, maybe a bit more for my area. There's an extra tree in my front yard that hasn't been there for a while. Cool link though, thanks Ving. :2thumbs:

I'm having a play with Google Earth now actually. The download was disabled for most of the day, only just got my hands on it now :). I had a play with Keyhole, which I understand Google Earth uses the same technology, and it was pretty good but I didn't like the idea of being charged to see Earth. It's a nifty little program. Still can't find my house though...

GoogleEarth is great. Had aplay just now, saw my house and the kids schools and so on...then took a trip to Egypt and had a look at the Pyramids.

It wont zoom in enough for me to see any streets, it says "we don`t have imagery at this zoom level for this region" :(

I've mapped out my local area now. This is a great tool, really puts things into perspective as well.

I know that the images (at least for my area) are later than 2002, but I don't know what time between then.
