Hi Guys,

I'm quite pleased with this image taken last night with the 350D UV/IR baader mod through the celestron NGT10.

A number of different sets of exposures were taken.

5 x 7 Minutes ISO 400
6 x 5 Minutes ISO 400
6 x 3 Minutes ISO 400
10 x 2 Minutes ISO 400
9 x 1 Minutes ISO 400
12 x 30 Second ISO 400
10 x 15 Second ISO 400

35 mins + 30 mins + 18 mins + 20 mins + 9 mins + 6 mins + 2 mins + 30 sec

Total of 2 hours and 30 sec :eyepop: i think my longest ever.

Hope you guys like it. Will upload the larger image later.

Cheers.

Pretty ordinary effort there Eric:eyepop::eyepop::eyepop::eyepop ::eyepop::eyepop::eyepop:

Everything is so clear and easily able to spot detail in stars and the nebulae;), not like the rest of us:whistle:

Holy cow Eric, thats very good. The core resolved nicely and very good neb extension. Youve captured the dynamic range of M42 beauifully.

This would be one of the best DSLR M42s Ive seen.

I am surprised at the very good data you get out of your 10" newt it must be due to the careful planning and the very good tracking from a mount that in some circles is just not up to it. The use of a DSLR is also a drawback but it is made up for by the careful exposure planning and skillfull processing. There is not much else to say Eric.

Apart from. The dark nebulae show good detail and intensity variation and contrast. The dynamic range displayed is also impressive as can be seen by the faint bits right next to the bright bits all showing contrast and detail and colour!
The colour rendition is also very good.

Well done Eric!

Very, very nice, Eric. I reckon I can almost resolve four stars in the trapezium. To have that plus the lovely detail of the faint nebula is great! I look forward to the larger file and a description of processing approach. :2thumbs:

Impressive work Eric. You've handled the dynamic range well though the layering principles. My only comment is why did the running man get axed? He's still a valued member of this region. I would have liked to see him included more in the final composition. Keep up the inspiring work.

:eyepop: You're just too good at this Eric

I feel like I've just wasted many dollars on a dedicated astro camera. I dread to think what results you would get if you bought one. Mind you I still have hopes for the future when I finally get auto guiding happening ..... hmmmmm !

Very well done again mate !

To say you are "quite pleased" must be the understatement of the year.

Hi Col, the way how i preserve the core is by doing layer masking in photoshop. with short exposures then combining them with long.

Thanks Mike. I don't normally go over 5 mins exposure due to my light polluted skies, but now it seems 7 mins really worked out.

Many thanks Al. cheers.

lol thanks houghy.

Cheers Gaz. Thanks mate.

Thanks theodog. your recent images aint bad either.

Thanks browndog.

haha thanks danny. alot of swirls to look at esp around the core.

Thanks RB

thanks mate. i wish i have a hubble :P

Thanks for your compliments bass. I definitely have seen better

Cheers Bert. The tracking is mainly due to the autoguiding involved. Weight wise, i think the EQ6 is struggling along with the ED80. I noticed quite alot of errors without autoguiding. I wish i can go a bigger aperture.

THanks Leon.

lol thanks mike. my previous M42 stars were elongated due to bad collimation. fixed this now :)

thanks paul.:lol: if you pay for my trip and expenses ;)

Thanks Doug.

Thanks Eric. Actual size of the image does show the 4 stars in the trap. attached a closer image :2thumbs:

hahaa i will droolll for a paramount. thanks doug.

lol thanks for your generousity.

haha i remember my previous m42 the collimation was quite bad on it. I think only now i finally know how to collimate after 2 years of doing it :D

hahaa thanks Jase. I was about to chop the running man even more as i like the bright star under orion. THink this is the only shot which i include the sholders .

Thanks Steve. Keep it up with your SBIG. you have a very powerful camera at your disposal. want to swap them? hehe :D

thanksss for your compliments. I might give printing it a go. the biggest print i have done is probably A4 on my home comp.

Thanks Eternal.

cheeersss Phil. i might blow it up but i think A1 size will be like $60 :(

Thanks Ricc. i'm happy with it ;) always give myself room for improvement. ;)

Thanks guys. So Far loving it. i won't be changing cameras inwhile now. hopefully my next one will be a dedicated CCD... but that will be big $$$ :(

Thanks for your compliments Baz.

Thanks Alchemy. I hope im back solidly, although around this time of the year im flat out busy.

Great shot , one I'd be happy with.

Personally I'd prefer the centre to be a bit brighter. That is, I'd prefer a less uniform brightness across the image which was more depictive of the object's real brightness. :)
