Anybody take time to check these DSOs out ? Got a favourite?

Heres some examples worth a look in the evenings now

NGC1535 - found in the constellation Eridanus , 9th mag ,18 arc seconds , pale bluish colour. Probarly require a moderate scope to reveal the central star at mag11 .

M1 , Crab nebula - found in Taurus, 8th mag, 6 arc min.

NGC 3132 , eigth-burst nebula--found in Vela, 8th mag, 10 mag central star.


Anyone got some others ?

I was disappointed with M1 the first time i saw it. It is a jem, but it's an object I have to spend a long time observing to see it's real beauty. The Ghost of Jupiter (NGC3242) in Hydra is a favorite. :cool3:

I agree Mick , how about M57 the ring nebula and M27 the dumbell {close to Alberio} nebula , two great DSOs and amazing to see for the first time.

1335 is a real treat, wait till you see it a big scope say 18inch plus wow.:eyepop:

When i saw m57 in my freinds 14 LX200 i said now thats what the ring nebula is suppose to look like, it was amazing.:cool:

Have you had a go at Thor's Helmet, ngc 2359 in Canis major?
This is my next challange this summer.
My intrest in this one came from Sky and Space's article on page72, Blowing Bubbles.

Not quite this time of year but i do like the blue color in ngc 3918.
Also trying to get the best view of the Triffed nebula dark lanes is a challange.

The list is long and distinguished.:)

Thats a great article to btw , havent view NGC 2359 yet .....pencil that one in in my ever growing list LOL.
One of the first few objects i looked at with the LX at a dark site were the eagle,swan , lagoon and triffid nebulas ...stunning from a dark site .
The largest aperature ive viewd through is 12"but hopefully one day i can get a chance to see some favourites though some larger glass ...cross fingers.
Ngc 3918 is wonderful ,so many ...the bug neb ....the ghost of jupiter ..... saturn neb , the helix is a little dissapointing through a scope .
next night out might make it PN time

Aperture and focal ratio, really makes a difference, M27 was good in the LX90 but it's an :eyepop: in the 12" dob. Have you been able to seen the central star in M57?

Aragorn,
Try the Helix with your widest filed eyepiece and if you have one a O111 filter!
If you don't have a O111, make it your next purchase, as you like the PN.
If you are ever over this way don't hesitate to make contact and we will get you a look through some big glass:)

We observe with a bit of light pollution from melbourne in the north, so the central star in m57 has alluded us so far!

Mick another example of mine on not taking regular notes :P cant remember if i have sighted it :whistle: but i can remember its a grand sight. Thanks for the offer Dave , man that would be awesome viewing through a 14" LX and larger , been giving a o111 thought for a while:)
