Hey Geoff
How are your Ada programming skills?
The software that provides the avionics system's full functionality is composed of approximately 1.7 million lines of code. Ninety percent of the software is written in Ada, the Department of Defense's common computer language.
That’ a big system upgrade and maintenance challenge!:eyepop:

you gotta have very deep pockets and someone to teach you on how to fly them
they are a flying brick they dont glide very well
ive flow a couple of lookalikes prop driven of course, they are hard youve got to keep the speed up or else you are in trouble
as for turbines they were at my time when i was in the RC game was very expensive
not to mention the cost of decent remote control :)
what it is worth these days i wouldnt have a clue :)

Cubic dollars, if you had any change out of $15K I'd be surprised. Here's a single turbine (http://www.galtechmodels.com/TurbinesSite/PST-turbines.shtml)for $4695 NZ. For a more affordable toy, this one's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRy9a_Vonww&feature=related)pretty neat too. You can get these on ebay in an electric version for under $100, not sure if they perform like the ones in the video though....

ive got a video somewhere from a club fly in
a man had a scale (not sure what it scale it was one quarter i think)
one of the engines died and so did the dakota, ouch it turned in on the dead motor and smash :(
i wanted a one quarter scale p51d the kit alone was about 2.5 to 3k
not to mention the servos battery packs receivers engine petrol 2 stroke that was about the cheapest to buy ect ect about 5 to 6k all up it was back then :)

I get my P51’s (Mustang) and P38’s (Lightning) mixed up? The P38 was the twin tail long range fighter IIRC? The P51 had the “muscle” bump underneath and was a single tail airplane? I used to build Airfix kits as a young fella.

Dennis, to add to the confusion there was also an F-82 made late in the war, it was 2 P51's joined together. Here's a link (http://www.richard-seaman.com/Aircraft/Museums/Dayton/Oddities/index.html)to a surviving example and some info.
