For the December Photo Challenge, we're going to trial anonymous entries. If it works as well as we hope/think, it'll remain for future photo challenges too.

The way it will work is as follows:

1. An entries thread will be created as normal, but it will be locked. There will be instructions in the thread for how to submit your entry.
2. Basically, it will have an email address (photocomp@iceinspace.com.au) that you send your image to, with any comments that you want placed with your entry. Make sure you specify your IIS username in the email!
3. The image must still follow the IceInSpace Image Posting Guidelines (under 200k jpeg).
4. The moderators will receive the email, and post the image and any comments in the entries thread on your behalf (without mentioning your name).
5. At the end of the month, you will then vote as normal (for a photo #, not a persons name).
6. When the poll closes, a moderator will reveal who owns the winning photo.
7. The moderator can still enter a photo in the competition, but will abstain from voting.

Thoughts/comments?

Excellent - sounds like the ticket Mike. Is there going to be a parallel thread for discussion still? I can't see any reason for there not to be.

Oh of course, yes.

We will be able to work out who took some of the images by the details supplied (object, camera, scope, etc), but it will still make it a very interesting challenge. Not only which image we vote for, but trying to work out (by the comments supplied) who took which image

Double the fun! :)

i like the idea.
however, I think the moderator should be allowed to vote, as well.
I trust the moderator and it is a friendly competition, anyway.

Maybe, no comments about the imaging gear or technique at all! Just the image alone.
That will make it even harder to know who took it.

Then the winner can reveal the details after winning. :)

Hi Mike

The new format won’t really change anything for my approach to the competition, so from that perspective, I am happy to follow whatever procedure is adopted.

I guess its more admin work, but if that’s cool, then it’s cool.

On a personal level, by far the greatest benefit I get is the stimulation to (try to) get out each month with a fresh topic in mind, and give it a go, as well as seeing how others have interpreted the theme. If my main impetus was to win, I’d have given up a long, long time ago!:lol:

Cheers

Dennis

PS – Ken has a devious mind!

We could always have a little on the side comp guessing who took the images....:camera:

I would be able to guess which picture is mine.

I win,
