G'day all,

The other night I left my scope going on this guy - a very interesting face-on galaxy. Sort of spiral, sort of irregular I'd say.

I'm really happy with the results. The subs were all quite nice and sharp, with no trailing or out of focus subs. :) Autoguiding subs were longer than desirable, but I couldn't get 2x2 autoguiding working for some reason - CCDCommander just wouldn't find the guide star when in 2x2 mode.

Clouds came in at about 2:30, putting an end to the images, so all I got was 10 x 10 luminance (clear) and one colour shot, so didn't get the rest of the colour data. Might get that again soon, but we're having huge cloud issues here in the west. :(

Image attached, and image with info here (http://www.rogergroom.com/rogergroom/esh_rog_item.jsp?Item=680&ParentNodeId=3).

Roger.

Wow Roger, that's a fantastic shot! So much detail in the bar and the core.

Lots of faint fuzzies in the background, too.

Really impressive result!

Hi Roger, and great pic:thumbsup:

I wrote an article on this object for the Sep/Oct issue of AS&T.

I was hoping 'one of our own' would image this. I've not seen too many amateur pics of this. Well done!

Great work Roger! You've obtained very pleasing detail around the nucleus and stars look sharp for 2200mm FL. Would really like to see your colour rendition of this object. Well done.

Very nice image Roger, the spiral arms have come up very nicely indeed, lots of detail in them.

A stunner, especially at that sort of focal length, well done. I am happy to play around at 800mm.

Hi Roger

Well, that is a stunning image on several fronts. Imaging at 2.2 metres is a tough ask and you’ve managed it so well – the stars are nice and round and you managed to obtain 10 minute subs which is impressive indeed.

The image scale perfect for the ST7 and the detail in the galaxy is just wonderful. You must be as pleased as punch.

Cheers

Dennis

Dennis - Yes, very pleased :) 10, 20 and 40 min subs aren't so uncommon for me, but it's rare the viewing conditions and all work out to produce an image quite as sharp as this :) I can think of about 5 other galaxy shots in the years that have ended up this nice, not many :)

Last night I finished acquiring some colour data to mix in, hopefully I'll have that processsed tomorrow :)

Thank you to all for your great comments
